Cloud storage guides

Cloud storage is easy to overpay for and easy to misunderstand. Most reviews rank providers by affiliate payout. We focus on ownership terms, encryption architecture, and true long-term costs.

When selecting a cloud storage provider, three questions determine whether a service fits your workflow:

  • The payment model: Do you want a recurring monthly subscription or a one-time lifetime license? Lifetime plans can deliver major savings for cold archives, but they carry company solvency risks.
  • The encryption model: Does the provider offer true zero-knowledge end-to-end encryption by default, or is it a paid add-on that disables web previews and file search?
  • Jurisdiction & privacy laws: Where are the servers and legal entities located (e.g., Switzerland, Germany, Canada, or the US), and what legal process is required for third parties to access metadata?
